Roads are a type of utility block. In general, they provide a speed boost to entities walking on top of them.
Dirt Road
Dirt roads can be created by right-clicking any dirt or grass block with a shovel. Right-clicking the path again will turn it into an half block.
They provide a 5% speed bonus to entities walking on top of them, but provide a 5% speed malus if it's raining, to simulate mud forming on the road because of the rain.
Gravel Road
Gravel roads can be created by right-clicking a dirt road with a gravel block. The kind of gravel used affects only the texture of the road, and not its function.
