It would be nice if torches gave off lower light in the latter 4 - 6 hours of power. That is if the regularity of a torch's tick permits that.

Relighting
Torches in the inventory can be used to 
Right Click on placed torches to either relight burned out torches, or restart the countdown timer on lit torches. Performing this task does not consume a second torch.
