Glass Blocks can be made by letting the Molten Glass solidify (about 8 and a half minutes after the firing finishes). Once the Molten Glass has solidified, if there was at least 1000 units of glass in the vessel, opening the vessel (or having it open when it solidifies) will cause the glass to convert to Glass Blocks inside the vessel (1 block per 1000 units of glass) so don't open the vessel after it shows as Solid if you don't want Glass Blocks. If there was less than 1000 units of glass in the vessel when it solidified, the vessel cannot be opened. Vessels of Solid Glass can be re-fired to liquify them, like solidified vessels of metal.

To make Glass Bottles, fill a blowpipe with 100 units of molten glass. When it is full, remove it from the slot and close the vessel interface. Now right-click with the loaded blowpipe in your hand to create a glass bottle.

The Molten Glass will stay liquid for about 8 and a half minutes, long enough to make 49 glass bottles (from 35 sand, lime, and soda ash) or 44 glass panes (from 63 sand, lime, and soda ash with 20 units left-over).

To make Glass Blocks, simply let the vessel of Molten Glass cool down. Once it is cool enough, you will get 1 block of glass per 1,000 units of solidified glass. Any remaining amount is lost.

Like all clay tools, the blowpipe must be fired before it can be used. This can be done in a Pit Kiln or Kiln. The blowpipe can also be used as a less effective version of a Bellows by crouching and Rmb.png Right Click on a firepit or forge. This will raise the heat in the firepit or forge temporarily.

Materials

Glass is made from three primary materials: Silica Sand, Lime, and Soda Ash (or Ash).

Silica Sand (Quartzite, Granite, Chert, Rhyollite, or Phyllite) can be found on some beaches. Silica sand will display a tooltip in the inventory indicating that it is silica sand.

Lime can be obtained by heating sea shells or fluxstone.

Soda Ash is obtained by letting Seaweed burn while cooking. A 160oz stack of Seaweed will create 64 pieces of Soda Ash, meaning that every ounce of seaweed will return about 0.4 pieces of Soda Ash. Ash can be obtained by breaking a Firepit.

Obtaining Molten Glass

Obtaining and casting glass is very similar to the process of obtaining and casting Bronze. To create Molten Glass, place equal amounts of Silica Sand, Lime, and Soda Ash into a Ceramic Vessel. 1 Soda Ash can be substituted with 2 Ash. One lime, one soda ash (or two ash), and one silica sand will make 140 units of glass.

Place the vessel into a Pit Kiln or Kiln. Once the vessel is fired, the vessel will be filled with molten glass.

Usage

A blowpipe or sheet mold can be filled with Molten Glass from a vessel, much like casting metals.

Glass panes require 200 units of glass each, while glass bottles require 100 units of glass each.

Place the filled sheet mold in a crafting grid to remove the Glass Sheet. There is a chance that the empty mold may break and be lost in the process.

Rmb.png Right Clicking with a blowpipe full of Molten Glass will return a Glass Bottle.

The Molten Glass will stay liquid for about 8 and a half minutes, long enough to make 49 glass bottles (from 35 sand, lime, and soda ash) or 44 glass panes (from 63 sand, lime, and soda ash with 20 units left-over).

Recycling

Glass Blocks, Glass Sheets, and Glass Bottles can be melted to be recycled back into Molten Glass by placing them into a ceramic vessel and firing it in a Pit Kiln. Some glass will be lost in the process of recycling.
