Obtaining Tools

There are three main tools you will need for Glass working; They are the Ceramic Vessel, Sheet Mold, and Blowpipe.

Like all clay tools, the blowpipe must be fired in a Pit Kiln before use. The blowpipe can also be used as a less effective version of a bellows by holding in the hand and crouch-right clickong on a firepit or forge.

Materials

The three primary materials used in Glass working are silica Sand, Lime, and Ash or Soda Ash.

Silica Sand (Quartzite, Granite, Chert, Rhyollite, or Phyllite) can be found on some beaches. If you hover over a block of sand in your inventory, it will say “silica” in the tool tip if the sand can be used to make glass.

Lime can be obtained by heating sea shells or flux-stone rocks/sand/gravel in a Fire Pit or Forge.

Ash is collected by breaking a Firepit.

Soda Ash is created by cooking Sea Weed in a Firepit until it burns up. A full 160oz will give 64 pieces of Soda Ash, so each oz will give you roughly 0.4 pieces.

Creating Molten Glass

Smelting and casting glass is very similar to smelting and casting bronze. To create molten glass, place equal amounts of Silica Sand, Lime, and Soda Ash into a Ceramic Vessel. You can substitute 2 Ash (collected from Firepits) for 1 Soda Ash.

Place the vessel in a Pit Kiln and fire the kiln. Once the Pit Kiln finishes, you will get a vessel of molten glass. One lime, one soda ash (or two ash), and one silica sand will make 140 units of glass.

Usage

Right-click while holding a vessel of Molten Glass to open the interface and access the casting slot, where you can place a blowpipe or mold to slowly fill it with molten glass.

To make Glass Panes, fill a Ceramic Sheet Mold with 200 units of Molten Glass. To remove the glass pane from the sheet mold, place it in your crafting inventory. This will return the sheet mold and one glass pane.

To make Glass Bottles, fill a blowpipe with 100 units of molten glass. When it is full, remove it from the slot and close the vessel interface. Now right-click with the loaded blowpipe in your hand to create a glass bottle.

To make Glass Blocks, simply let the vessel of Molten Glass cool down. Once it is cool enough, you will get 1 block of glass per 1,000 units of solidified glass. Any remaining amount is lost.

Glass Recycling

You can recycle glass blocks, sheets, or bottles back into molten glass by placing them into a ceramic vessel and firing it in the pit kiln. Some glass is lost in the process.
