Power

In TFC+, power supplied by mechanical systems can be used to automate various machines such as the Quern and Bellows. Power is produced by machines such as the Waterwheel. The power can then be transmitted through a system of Axles and Gears, and controlled by Axle Couples to reach their destinations.

Axles

The two main components of mechanical systems are Axles and Axle Bearings.

Axles must be mounted on Axle Bearings. Horizontal Axle Bearings must have a solid block or Support Beam below them, while vertical bearings need a solid block or Support BeamVerify on either side. Mounted Axles can reach up to 7 blocks away from the Axle Bearing.

Axle Couples can be used to control the mechanism system. Axle Couples only transmit mechanical power when activated by a redstone signal.

Waterwheels

Waterwheels produce power from falling water. The hub of the waterwheel needs to be mounted between two axles, with the axle bearings two blocks away from falling water. The speed of the waterwheel does not matter - instead, the distance that the water falls determines power.

Gears

Gears serve two purposes. First, they can transfer power from a horizontal Axle to a vertical Axle and vice versa. Second, they serve as a means to control the speed of a mechanical system.

To mount a Gear, right click on the end of an axle. Mounted gears can be removed by shift clicking on them.

Ratio

Transferring power from a larger gear to a smaller gear will increase its speed based on a ratio, while transferring power from a smaller gear to a larger gear will decrease the speed based on a ratio.

Load

The load on the system is controlled by several factors. When the load exceeds the capacity that the system can take, the system will stop. Increasing the speed of the system will cause machines attached to the parts that are spinning faster to create more load on the system.

Querns can be automatically spun by mechanisms. To automate a quern, first place a Rind in the quern's first slot (which is the same slot as where the Handstone would otherwise go). Next, place a Millstone onto the top of the quern by right-clicking.

Bellows

Bellows can be automatically pumped by mechanisms. The increased pumping speed allows machines like the Forge to reach higher temperatures than they can normally reach. This is essential for late-game metalworking, such as during the Steel age, where Steel must be melted at Brilliant White to create Black Steel.

To automate Bellows, craft a Crankshaft to pump them.

Crankshafts can be attached to the back of bellows. There must be an axle in an adjacent space in order to place the crankshaft.
