Obtaining

Torches are made by crafting a Stick, Straw, and Resin in a crafting table. They can also be made by placing a stick in a Barrel of Pitch. This will create an Extinguished Torch, which can be lit by Rmb.png Right Clicking on an already placed lit Torch, or on a lit firepit. Alternatively, Extinguished Torches can be placed, and lit with a Firestarter or Flint & Steel.

Rmb.png Right Click on a lit torch or lit firepit, or place and Rmb.png Right Click with a firestarter or flint and steel to light the torch.

Note: Lit Torches will set nearby things on fire! Be careful to remove all flammable blocks around the area before placing the Torch. Use a Candle or Firepit for indoor lighting instead.

Usage

Torches can burn blocks or spawn fire in any of these spaces.

Torches can be placed on the solid sides of most blocks, as well as on top of fences and stone walls. Unlike in vanilla, gravity affected blocks like dirt, cobblestone, sand and gravel cannot be supported by Torches, and will fall and replace any Torches that are directly underneath them.

Light

Lit Torches give off a light level of 12. After a configurable amount of time (Default: 48 hours), or if directly exposed to rain, lit Torches will burn out and no longer produce light. Torches can also be manually extinguished with a Rmb.png Right Click from an empty hand. Extinguished Torches can be picked up and relit, or can be relit by Rmb.png Right Clicking with another lit Torch.

Relighting

Torches in the inventory can be used to Rmb.png Right Click on placed Torches to either relight burned out Torches, or restart the countdown timer on lit Torches.

Fire

Placed Torches will occasionally sputter, letting out embers that can set nearby flammable blocks on fire. For this reason, it is advisable to use Candles indoors, instead. The Torch can spawn fire one block above itself, two blocks below itself, and one block to the side. Air blocks in this area can become fire if they touch the face of a flammable block. Flammable blocks in this area can be destroyed and replaced by fire.

Dropped Torch entities can also set Log Piles on fire. This trait of Torches means they can be used as a way to light a pit kiln or log pile on fire. This will start processing the pottery inside the pit kiln, and also starts the processing of the Log Piles into Charcoal.

Note: If Torch burnout is disabled in the config, Torches won't set things on fire.
