Fish is a type of food in TFC+. It can be obtained from fish mobs through fishing with a fishing rod. It is classed under the protein subgroup. Uniquely, fish cannot be eaten raw.

== Fishing ==
+

+
In order to start fishing, the player has to craft a fishing rod using a pole, two pieces of string and a bone needle.
+

+
A thusly crafted fishing rod will not have a full durability bar, because the durability bar of a fishing rod represents the amount of line that is left. More line can be added by crafting the fishing rod with string.
+
Right-clicking with the rod will cast the line, and holding right click while the line is still cast will draw it in. One thing to note is that if the line does not touch water or a block by the time all the line has been cast, the line and the hook will be lost and the fishing rod will be unusable until the player repairs it. To repair a broken fishing rod, the player has to craft it with a bone needle and at least one string.

Fish will swim towards the bobber by themselves as long as they are within a short distance from it. The player will know if a fish has bitten the hook by paying attention to the bobber, which will go underwater, and because the game helpfully notifies the player with a message saying "Oh! A bite!". Once the fish has bitten the hook, the player has to pull it on land while avoiding to snap the line. In this phase, the player's xp bar represents the tension in the line which raises when the player reels in the fish and lowers when the player lets go. If the bar fills completely, the line snaps and both it and the hook are lost. If the player manages to pull the fish on land, it dies and drop a quantity of fish proportionate to its size.

Fish are a mob that can spawn in water blocks in lake, river and ocean biomes. Fish can spawn and despawn after the initial world generation, like [[deer]] and pheasants.
+
Fish will swim, usually in schools, in bodies of water. If they are approached by a player, fish will speed up to escape them. If the player persist in trying to chase them, they will simply disappear, discouraging the players from trying to fish with weapons.
+
There are currently four unique species of fish in TFC+: the bass, the trout, the pollock and the wahoo. All different fish species drop the same food item, the main difference between them is the conditions in which they spawn and the amount of food they drop.

=== Bass ===
+

+
Bass are medium sized fish with dark green scales and a greenish-tan underbelly. They also have large dorsal and caudal fins, which are green in colour.
+
They spawn in lake biomes regardless of region and temperature.
+

+
=== Trout ===
+

+
Trouts are medium sized fish with light brown scales and a lighter underbelly. They have a streak of pink scales that run down both their sides.
+
They spawn in river biomes regardless of region and temperature.
+

+
=== Wahoo ===
+

+
Wahoos are large fish with blue scales and a light blue underbelly. They have light blue stripes running the length of their bodies and have a long dorsal fin.
+
Wahoos spawn in warm ocean biomes. One thing to note is that there is some overlap between the spawn regions of pollocks and wahoos.
+

+
=== Pollock ===
+

+
Pollocks are slim fish with silver and dark gray scales. They also have relatively small dorsal and caudal fins.
+
Pollocks spawn in colder ocean biomes, and can also spawn in arctic conditions. One thing to note is that there is some overlap between the spawn regions of pollocks and wahoos.
