Containers

From TerraFirmaCraft Plus Wiki

Overview

In Terrafirmacraft+, there are multiple types of item and liquid containers. Containers can be portable or non-portable (non-portable items will drop their contents when broken or picked up), may or may not be placed (meaning they can be stored on the ground or in chests), and may or may not accept liquids. The following table shows the list of containers in Terrafirmacraft+, and their properties.

Container Portable Placed Liquid Storage Slots Liquid capacity
Straw Basket No Yes No 9 N/A
Ceramic Vessel Yes Yes 1 No 4 N/A
Burlap Sack Yes No No 4 5 N/A
Ceramic Large Vessel Yes, Sealed Yes Yes 9 5000 mB
Barrel Yes, Sealed Yes Yes 12 10000 mB
Hide Bags Yes 4 No No 6 N/A
Leather Bags Yes 4 No No 6 N/A
  Chest No Yes 2 No 18 or 36 3 N/A
  1. Can be placed by shift-right clicking as a ceramic item. Cannot be opened while placed.
  2. Can connect with another chest next to it to create a Double chest.
  3. The double chest has 36 slots of storage.
  4. Bags slowly take durability damage when items are in them.
  5. Burlap sacks will only hold non-grain food items. Food inside decays at 15% of the normal rate.

Straw Basket

The Straw Basket is obtained with Straw weaving. It acts as a small early-game container, which is not portable, and cannot contain liquid.

Ceramic Vessels

See also: Barrel

The Ceramic Vessel is a Pottery item. It is shaped from clay, and then fired in a Pit Kiln.

In addition to holding items and grain, Ceramic Vessels can be used to smelt ore and glass.

Large Ceramic Vessel

The Large Ceramic Vessel is a Pottery item. It must be shaped from clay and fired in a Pit Kiln before it can be used.

Unlike the regular Ceramic Vessel, the Large Ceramic Vessel can be used to transport and process liquids. Like a barrel, it can be carried in the back slot while holding items or liquids. Any crafting recipe that works with the barrel will also work with the large ceramic vessel.

Processing

A Large Ceramic Vessel mounted on a firepit.

The Large Ceramic Vessel can be used to process liquids, meaning it can be used to melt items into liquids, use these liquids to craft items, and to process liquids into other liquids. Its' unique ability to be able to be mounted on a Firepit, and to be a part of a Still means that it can be used for a number of recipes, such as creating Fresh Water from Salt Water. In addition to recipes that require the large ceramic vessel to be mounted on a firepit, it can also be used for any recipe that can be performed in a Barrel.

A Large Ceramic Vessel can be mounted on a firepit by pressing ⇧ Shift and   Right Clicking on the firepit. When a Large Ceramic Vessel is mounted on a firepit, and has a Blowpipe in it's item slot, while another Large Ceramic Vessel is on the ground next to it, it becomes a Still, and can be used to distill liquids into other liquids.

Large Ceramic Vessel Heating Recipes
Input Item Input Liquid Output Item Output Liquid Time
Salt Water Salt Fresh Water St 45 minutes per 500 mB
Fermented Alcohol Distilled Alcohol St 12 minutes per 200 mB
Small Raw Hide Fresh Water Slimeball 4 hours per hide
Empty Honeycomb Wax 45 minutes per honeycomb
Grain Fresh Water Malted Grain 4 hours per 5 oz
Snowball Fresh Water 30 minutes per snowball
Resin Pitch 3 minutes per resin
  • St: Only works if the mounted Large Ceramic Vessel is part of a Still, i.e. it has a blowpipe in it, and is next to another Large Ceramic Vessel on the ground.

Propagation

The Large Ceramic Vessel is also used to propagate Berry Bushes and Fruit Trees. Fruit larger than 40oz which is placed in the Large Ceramic Vessel surrounded by at least two dirt in every other slot, and allowed to decay, will produce a Berry Bush or Fruit Tree Sapling that matches the fruit put in.

Resin Collection

An unsealed Large Ceramic Vessel placed below a Knife stuck into a Tree will collect the Resin in its inventory instead of letting it spawn on the ground.

Burlap Sacks can be used to store non-grain food. A Sack has four inventory slots. Food stored in Burlap Sacks decays at 15% of the original speed.

Burlap Sacks are crafted by cutting Burlap Cloth into two Burlap Sack Pieces, which can then be sewn together into a Burlap Sack.

The Leather bag and Hide bag are made from sewing two Leather or Hide bag pieces, which are made from Leather or Raw Hide. One leather or one small hide piece returns two leather or hide bag pieces. Empty bags stack to 4. Bags that are holding items do not stack and cannot be placed in other containers.

Bags decay gradually when items are stored in them. The Hide bag will decay after about a month in game holding items, while the Leather bag can store items for about a year. Bags do not decay while the player is offline on a server. Bags do not preserve food, and cannot be placed on the ground. The Hide bag can be obtained early-game, while the Leather bag requires Leatherworking, which is more intensive.

Trivia

  • Dunkleosteus was inspired to add the bags after he could not find any clay in a playthrough. He decided that there needed to be an alternative way to store items in a portable container in the early-game.
  • Burlap sacks are also known as gunnysacks or potato sacks. The sacks are very durable and very breathable. This helps prevent decay caused by condensation.
