Use
The Thatch Roof is a solid block that works better than the Straw Block as a stone-age roof material. Not only does it block rain and mobs, it also gives a moderate cold protection bonus to players standing up to 10 blocks below.
Trivia
The Straw Block was previously called Thatch.
These blocks do not render 45 degree angles when they meet at corners the way Ceramic Tile Roofs do. There is also no peak/ridge version of the thatch roof block.
