Obtaining
Roofs are blocks with a diagonal shape. When placed on a compatible block, they will pull the texture of the block up, creating a seamless wall between the block and the roof. They will also provide protection from temperature for players standing less than 10 blocks below.
There are three kinds of roof: the Thatch Roof, made from Straw, the Slate Roof, made from Slate Shingles, and the Ceramic Tile Roof, made from Ceramic Tiles.
Roofs can come in three steepnesses: Steep, Normal, and Shallow. Shallow Roofs are placed similarly to slabs, where it will be placed at the top of the block if the player places it at the top, and similarly for the bottom. The steep roofs are placed similarly, except on the top face of a block instead of the side face.

The Straw Roof is crafted with two Straw Blocks and one stick.
Slate Roof
Slate Shingles are created by crafting a Slate Brick with a Chisel. The Slate Roof is then assembled with two Lumber and three Slate Shingles. Alternatively, a Steep Slate Roof can be crafted with three Lumber and three Slate Shingles.
Slate Roof Peaks can be crafted by placing two roofs of the same steepness side-by-side. The resulting peak will have a steepness the same as the roofs used to craft it.
Ceramic Tile Roof
Clay Tiles can be made by wrapping two clay balls around a log in the crafting interface. Clay Tiles can be fired in a Pit Kiln, or in bulk inside a Kiln. The Ceramic Tile Roof is then assembled with two Lumber and three Ceramic Tiles. Alternatively, a Steep Ceramic Roof can be crafted with three Lumber and three Ceramic Tiles.
Ceramic Roof Peaks can be crafted by placing two roofs of the same steepness side-by-side. The resulting peak will have a steepness the same as the roofs used to craft it.
Copper Roof
Usage
Roofs that are placed on a compatible block will "drag" the block's texture up, creating a seamless texture. A roof up to 25 blocks above the player's head will provide the player with temperature protection, based on the roof's material.
- The Thatch Roof provides +2 cold resistance.
- The Slate Roof provides +2 heat resistance and +4 cold resistance.
- The Ceramic Tile Roof provides +4 heat resistance and +2 cold resistance.
- Copper Roof provides +3 heat and +3 cold resistance.
Natural Roof
Raw stone can form a natural roof if there are 7 solid blocks of contiguous stone within the 12 blocks above the player's head. This means that caves can provide protection from extreme temperatures naturally. A natural roof gives +1 heat resistance and +2 cold resistance.
