Obtaining

Alcohol in TFC+ can be obtained from a variety of sources. Alcohol is divided in two categories: Fermented Alcohol, which is made from fermenting fruits, vegetables and grains, and Distilled Alcohol, which is made from distilling Fermented Alcohol. Distilled Alcohol is a lot stronger than the respective Fermented Alcohol.

Malted Grains

Grain can be malted before fermenting to make beers. Decayed malted grain is also required as a source of yeast for most alcohols. The advantage of malting instead making a wine directly from the grain is that malting increases the volume of the grain by 20%. To malt a grain, place (shift+right click) a Large Ceramic Vessel filled with fresh water on top of a lit firepit, add the grains to the vessel's item slot, then seal the vessel.

The grain expands in volume when it is malted. If a full 160oz stack is used, the output will be a 160oz stack and a 32oz stack. There is no need to leave room for the expansion of the grain.

Note: After the grains have been malted, the player needs to cook them before they can be used to make beer.

Fermented Alcohols

See also: Barrel#Alcohol

There are several production methods for creating alcohol. Beers are made from cooking Malted Grain and sealing them in a barrel of fresh water. Fruit Wines (and Agave Wine) are made from Juice, which are created by pressing fruits in a Hopper, then adding a source of yeast to them to start the fermentation. Some other types of alcohol are mixed with water, which is then provided with a source of yeast to start the fermentation into alcohol.

Yeast

Yeast is an essential part of fermentation, as it turns the source food into alcohol. Some foods are able to carry their own yeast, and thus do not need to have yeast added to them to begin fermentation. In Terrafirmacraft+, yeast can be added to a liquid by placing a piece of Malted Grain larger than 0.01 oz. that has a decay of at least 5%.

Beers

Beers are made from cooking malted grains, then sealing them in a barrel of fresh water.

Fruit Wine

Fruit Wine is made in two steps. First, Juice is made by pressing fruits in a Hopper. Next, a source of Yeast is added to the juice to produce wine.

Still

A Still can be used to create distilled Alcohols from Fermented Alcohols or to create Fresh Water and Salt from Salt Water.

To create a Still, the player has to put a Large Ceramic Vessel on top of a Firepit and then add a Ceramic Blowpipe in the vessel's item slot. They then need to put another empty vessel adjacent to the main vessel to catch the product. If everything is set up correctly, the appearance of the distilling vessel should change to that of a clay still, signaling that the player is good to go. Once the liquid to be distilled is added to the vessel on the Firepit and the fire is lit, the product should begin to slowly fill the collection vessel as it is boiled off in the distilling vessel.

Distilled Alcohols

To obtain Distilled Alcohol, the player has to distill Fermented Alcohol in a Still. To start the process, start the firepit with a large vessel of fermented alcohol above it. After some time, distilled Alcohol will start to deposit in the receiving vessel. 75 mB of Distilled Alcohol is produced for every 200 mB of Fermented Alcohol. Using different kinds of Fermented Alcohols will result in different kinds of Distilled Alcohols.

Usage

Alcohol has a variety of uses. Fermented Alcohol can be drunk to restore a little thirst, and Alcohol in general provides a boost in experience after being drunk. Alcohol may also give the players random potion effects when drunk.

Barrels and Large Ceramic Vessels of Fermented Alcohol, if left unsealed and exposed to the sky, will turn into Vinegar.

Drunkenness

The player can become drunk if they drink too much Alcohol. There are three consecutive stages to drunkenness: Drunk, Very Drunk and Wasted. When the player is Drunk, they have a small chance of failing to interact with items such as chests and barrels. If the player continues drinking, they will become Very Drunk. The player's view will become blurry, and they will not be able to use an anvil, as well as having an increased chance of failing to use an item. Continuing to drink will lead to the player being Wasted. In the Wasted stage, the player's view will gain a phosphor effect, where lines appear to stretch. The player will wobble side to side while walking. Drinking past this point will eventually lead to the player dying of alcohol poisoning. Drunkenness will slowly wear off on its own.
