Alcohol in TFC+ is divided in two categories: Fermented Alcohol and Distilled Alcohol. Fermented alcohol is a mildly intoxicating drink and can be used to make vinegar. Distilled Alcohol is a strongly intoxicating drink, and can be used as an antiseptic for crafting Sterile Bandages.

Alcohol in TFC+ can be obtained from a variety of sources. Alcohol is divided in two categories: Fermented Alcohol, which is made from fermenting fruits, vegetables and grains, and Distilled Alcohol, which is made from distilling Fermented Alcohol. Distilled Alcohol is a lot stronger than the respective Fermented Alcohol.

Alcohol is divided in two categories: Fermented Alcohol, which is made by fermenting fruits, vegetables, grains, or honey in a Barrel or Large Ceramic Vessel; and Distilled Alcohol, which is made by processing Fermented Alcohol in a Still.
+
Malted Grains
 +
Grain can be malted before fermenting to make beers. The advantage of malting instead making a wine directly from the grain is that malting increases the volume of the grain by 20%. To malt a grain, place (shift+right click) a Large Ceramic Vessel filled with fresh water on top of a lit firepit, add the grains to the vessel's item slot, then seal the vessel.

Note: If the Large Ceramic Vessel is used instead of the barrel for making Alcohol, remember that its liquid capacity is half (500mB) that of the Barrel (1,000 mB). Recipe inputs are halved as well.
+
The grain expands in volume when it is malted. If a full 160oz stack is used, the output will be a 160oz stack and a 32oz stack. There is no need to leave room for the expansion of the grain.

Fermented Alcohols
+
Note: After the grains have been malted, the player needs to cook them before they can be used to make beer.

There are few basic recipes for making fermented Alcohols: the Fruit Wines are made by adding yeast to Fruit Juice; Mead is made by adding Yeast to a honey-water mixture; grain and potato wines are made by adding Yeast to a food-water mixture; and Beers are made by adding cooked malted grain to water.

Note: Yeast is not a specific item. Any amount of fruit or malted grain with at least 5% decay can be used as yeast.

Fruit Wines
Wines made from the Juices of Fruit, Agave, or Sugar Cane are the simplest to make. Just add Yeast to a container of Juice and seal it. The GUI of the sealed container will show the date sealed and the expected output. After 72 in-game hours, the yeast will be consumed and the Juice will turn into Wine.

Mead is made in two steps. First, create Honeywater by adding a bowl or bucket of Honey (100 mB) to a nearly full Barrel (9000 mB) of Fresh Water. The output is created immediately. The second step for is to add yeast to the container of Honeywater and seal it. The GUI of the sealed barrel will show the date sealed and the expected output. After 72 in-game hours, the yeast will be consumed and all the Honeywater will turn into Mead.

Grain Wines and Potato Wine
+

+
Grain wines and potato wine are made in two steps.
+

+
The first step is to seal at least 145 oz. of grain or *cooked* potato into a container full of Fresh Water. The GUI of the sealed barrel will show the date sealed and the expected output, which will be a food-water mixture (ex: barley water, potato water).
+

+
The second step is to add yeast to the container of food-water mixture and seal it. The GUI of the sealed barrel will show the date sealed and the expected output. After 72 in-game hours, the yeast will be consumed and all the food-water mixture will turn into Alcohol.

To obtain Fermented Alcohol, the player has to seal 145-160 oz. of a fermentable item into a barrel full of fresh water. If the amounts are correct, the GUI of the sealed barrel will show the date sealed and the expected output. After 72 in-game hours, the fermentable items will be consumed and all the Water will turn into Alcohol. A full barrel of water only requires 145 oz of fermentable material. This amount can be obtained by cutting a full stack into smaller portions and combining stacks of size 80, 40, 20, and 5 ounces. This will leave a remainder of 15 oz. A full 160 oz. stack can be used, but the extra 15 oz will be wasted and has no effect.

Beers
+
The Large Ceramic Vessel can be used instead of a Barrel. Since it holds half as much water (5,000mB vs. 10,000mB) half the amount of the fermentable material is needed.

Beers are created from Malted Grains. To begin, place Shift+RMB a Large Ceramic Vessel on top of a Firepit. Fill the Vessel with Fresh Water, add grain to the vessel's item slot, then seal the vessel and light the Firepit. After 4 in-game hours, the grains will turn into Malted Grain. Grain expands in volume by 20% when it is malted. If a full 160oz stack is used, the output will be a 160oz stack and a 32oz stack of Malted Grain.
+
The type of Alcohol created depends on the item used. Using fruit, vegetables, or unmalted grains will result in wines. Malted grains will result in beers.

The second step of crafting Beers is to roast the Malted grain. Cook the stack of Malted Grain in a Firepit. Any degree of doneness will work.
+
Honeywater is made by adding a bowl or bucket of Honey to a barrel almost full (9000 mB) of fresh water.

The final step is to seal at least 145 oz. of the cooked Malted Grain into a container full of Fresh Water. If the Malted Grain and Fresh Water mixture is correct, the GUI of the sealed barrel will show the date sealed and the expected output. After 72 in-game hours, the Malted Grain will be consumed and all the Fresh Water will turn into Beer. Beers do not require yeast.
+

Distilled Alcohols
Distilled Alcohols are strong intoxicants (which can also be used as antiseptics) made by processing Fermented Alcohol with a Still.

Still
Still
+
A Still can be used to create distilled Alcohols from Fermented Alcohols or to create Fresh Water and Salt from Salt Water.
To create a Still, Shift + RMB a Large Ceramic Vessel on top of a Firepit and place a Ceramic Blowpipe into the vessel's item slot. This vessel will boil the input liquid.  Next, place another empty Large Ceramic Vessel on the ground next to the Firepit. This vessel will catch the output liquid. If everything is set up correctly, the blowpipe should appear to connect the two vessels.
+

Note: The Still can also be used to distill Fresh Water from Salt Water (with Salt as a side product).
+
To create a Still, the player has to put a Large Ceramic Vessel on top of a Firepit and then add a Ceramic Blowpipe in the vessel's item slot. They then need to put another empty vessel adjacent to the main vessel to catch the product. If everything is set up correctly, the appearance of the distilling vessel should change to that of a clay still, signaling that the player is good to go. Once the liquid to be distilled is added to the vessel on the Firepit and the fire is lit, the product should begin to slowly fill the collection vessel as it is boiled off in the distilling vessel.

Distillation
+
Distilled Alcohols
To start the process, fill the vessel on the firepit with Fermented Alcohol, seal it, and light the Firepit. Over time, The Fermented Alcohol will begin to boil away from the heated vessel, and Distilled Alcohol will start to collect in the receiving vessel. Every 200 mB of Fermented Alcohol will produce 75 mB of Distilled Alcohol. The process will stop if the heated vessel is unsealed or if the Firepit runs out of fuel.
+
To obtain Distilled Alcohol, the player has to distill Fermented Alcohol in a Still. To start the process, start the firepit with a large vessel of fermented alcohol above it. After some time, distilled Alcohol will start to deposit in the receiving vessel. 75 mB of Distilled Alcohol is produced for every 200 mB of Fermented Alcohol. Using different kinds of Fermented Alcohols will result in different kinds of Distilled Alcohols.

Revision as of 11:46, 10 April 2020

This article needs to be updated to match TFC+'s newest version.
It might not contain completely accurate information for the newest version. Please help by contributing.
Information: Most/all non-grains now need to be pressed into juice before being brewed into alcohol. All fermented alcohols need a yeast source (5%+ decayed malt or fruit).

Obtaining

Alcohol in TFC+ can be obtained from a variety of sources. Alcohol is divided in two categories: Fermented Alcohol, which is made from fermenting fruits, vegetables and grains, and Distilled Alcohol, which is made from distilling Fermented Alcohol. Distilled Alcohol is a lot stronger than the respective Fermented Alcohol.

Malted Grains

Grain can be malted before fermenting to make beers. The advantage of malting instead making a wine directly from the grain is that malting increases the volume of the grain by 20%. To malt a grain, place (shift+right click) a Large Ceramic Vessel filled with fresh water on top of a lit firepit, add the grains to the vessel's item slot, then seal the vessel.

The grain expands in volume when it is malted. If a full 160oz stack is used, the output will be a 160oz stack and a 32oz stack. There is no need to leave room for the expansion of the grain.

Note: After the grains have been malted, the player needs to cook them before they can be used to make beer.

Fermented Alcohols

See also: Barrel#Alcohol

The Large Ceramic Vessel can be used instead of a Barrel. Since it holds half as much water (5,000mB vs. 10,000mB) half the amount of the fermentable material is needed.

The type of Alcohol created depends on the item used. Using fruit, vegetables, or unmalted grains will result in wines. Malted grains will result in beers.

Honeywater is made by adding a bowl or bucket of Honey to a barrel almost full (9000 mB) of fresh water.

Note: Malted Grains and Potatoes must be cooked to produce alcohol.

Still

A Still can be used to create distilled Alcohols from Fermented Alcohols or to create Fresh Water and Salt from Salt Water.
Still.png

To create a Still, the player has to put a Large Ceramic Vessel on top of a Firepit and then add a Ceramic Blowpipe in the vessel's item slot. They then need to put another empty vessel adjacent to the main vessel to catch the product. If everything is set up correctly, the appearance of the distilling vessel should change to that of a clay still, signaling that the player is good to go. Once the liquid to be distilled is added to the vessel on the Firepit and the fire is lit, the product should begin to slowly fill the collection vessel as it is boiled off in the distilling vessel.

Distilled Alcohols

To obtain Distilled Alcohol, the player has to distill Fermented Alcohol in a Still. To start the process, start the firepit with a large vessel of fermented alcohol above it. After some time, distilled Alcohol will start to deposit in the receiving vessel. 75 mB of Distilled Alcohol is produced for every 200 mB of Fermented Alcohol. Using different kinds of Fermented Alcohols will result in different kinds of Distilled Alcohols.

Usage

Alcohol has a variety of uses. Fermented Alcohol can be drunk to restore a little thirst, and Alcohol in general provides a boost in experience after being drunk. Alcohol may also give the players random potion effects when drunk.

Barrels and Large Ceramic Vessels of Fermented Alcohol, if left unsealed and exposed to the sky, will turn into Vinegar.

Drunkenness

The player can become drunk if they drink too much Alcohol. There are three consecutive stages to drunkenness: Drunk, Very Drunk and Wasted. When the player is Drunk, they have a small chance of failing to interact with items such as chests and barrels. If the player continues drinking, they will become Very Drunk. The player's view will become blurry, and they will not be able to use an anvil, as well as having an increased chance of failing to use an item. Continuing to drink will lead to the player being Wasted. In the Wasted stage, the player's view will gain a phosphor effect, where lines appear to stretch. The player will wobble side to side while walking. Drinking past this point will eventually lead to the player dying of alcohol poisoning. Drunkenness will slowly wear off on its own.
