distilling a fermented alcohol into a distilled alcohol reduces the volume to 37.5% or 8:3
Alcohol in TFC+ can be obtained from a variety of sources. Alcohol is divided in two categories: Fermented Alcohol, which is made from fermenting fruits, vegetables and grains, and Distilled Alcohol, which is made from distilling Fermented Alcohol. Distilled Alcohol is a lot stronger than the respective Fermented Alcohol.

Malted Grains
a glass bottle (250mB) OR a ceramic jug (1000mB) of fermented alcohol gives 2 XP, a serving of distilled alcohol gives 8 XP.
Grain can be malted before fermenting to make beers. The advantage of malting instead making a wine directly from the grain is that malting increases the volume of the grain by 20%. To malt a grain, the place a large clay vessel filled with fresh water on top of a lit firepit, add the grains to the vessel's item slot, then seal the vessel. After the grains have been malted, the player needs to cook them before they can be used to make beer.

This means that the volume reduction caused by distilling is more than compensated for by the 4x xp gain.

There are two tiers of alcohol in Terrafirmacraft+. The first tier, Fermented Alcohol, is created from fermenting various food items inside a liquid container. The second tier, Distilled Alcohol, is made by distilling Fermented Alcohol in a Still.
<!--T:2-->
All alcohols are liquids and therefore must be contained within a liquid container, such as a Barrel or Large Ceramic Vessel. This also means that a Barrel or Large Vessel is required to produce any type of alcohol.
=== Fermented Alcohol === <!--T:3-->
While there are several processes that can create fermented alcohol in Terrafirmacraft+, the base ingredients of all these are fresh water, Yeast, and some Food that can be fermented.
==== Yeast ==== <!--T:4-->
In Terrafirmacraft+, yeast can be obtained by leaving non-preserved Fruit or Malted Grain in a Food Preparation surface for an in-game day. Yeast appears in-game as a property of Fruit or Grain, and is not a specific item on its own. When a food has yeast on it, its name will be prefixed with "Yeasty". This property has no effect on Decay or Taste, and can be removed by placing the food in a Firepit.
==== Processes ==== <!--T:5-->
Different types of fermented alcohol require different processes to produce them. Namely, the processes for each of the types of alcohol are:
<!--T:6-->
* Fruit Wines can be made by adding Yeast to Fruit Juice.
* Mead is made by adding Yeast to a mixture of honey and water.
* Grain and potato wines first need to be soaked in water to create a mixture. Then, Yeast is added to the mixture.
* Beers can be made by adding any type of yeasty cooked malted grain to water.
<!--T:7-->
All fermentation in Terrafirmacraft+ takes 72 hours to complete. The GUI of the container will update to reflect the expected output of the recipe used, as well as the date the container was sealed.
The following sections will elaborate on the processes that can be used for each of the alcohols in Terrafirmacraft+.
==== Fruit Wine ==== <!--T:8-->
Fruit Wine can be made from the Juices of Food items in the Fruit category, as well as Agave and Sugarcane. To start the fermentation, add Yeast to a container of Juice, and seal it. As with other alcohols, fermentation takes 72 hours.

==== Mead ==== <!--T:10-->
Mead is made from Honey. There are two steps of making Mead. First, Honeywater must be created by adding a bucket (1000 mB) of Honey to a liquid container of Fresh Water. Only this ratio can be used, and it can only be done through buckets. The volume of the Honey will be added to the volume of water, so there must be enough free space in the liquid container for the Honey to be added. This will immediately create the Honeywater. Next, add Yeast to the Honeywater to start the fermentation. As with other alcohols, fermentation takes 72 hours.

==== Grain Wine and Potato Wine ==== <!--T:12-->

<!--T:13-->
There are two steps in making Grain and Potato wines. The first step is to seal at least 145 oz. of Grain (except Oats) or cooked potato into a liquid container of Fresh Water. This will create a mixture of the food and water (e.g. Barley Water or Potato Water).

<!--T:14-->
The second step is to add Yeast to the mixture of food and water, and then sealing the container in which it is contained. This will begin the fermentation and convert the mixture to Wine. As with other alcohols, fermentation takes 72 hours.

Fermented Alcohols
<!--T:16-->
Barrel#Alcohol

To obtain Fermented Alcohol, the player has to put 160 oz of the desired fermentable item (or 32 items in the case of agave) in a barrel or large vessel full of fresh water and then seal the barrel. After four ingame days have passed, the item will be consumed and the barrel will be converted to a barrel of Alcohol. The type of Alcohol created depends on the item used. Using fruit, vegetables or unmalted grains will result in wines, while using malted grains will result in beers.

Note: Malted Grains and Potatoes must be cooked to produce alcohol.

==== Beers ==== <!--T:17-->

<!--T:18-->
Beers can be created from any type of grain (except Oat). This grain must first be malted, then cooked, and allowed to become Yeasty. Next, they are added to a liquid container of Fresh Water in order to ferment them.

===== Malting ===== <!--T:19-->

<!--T:20-->
The first step in creating any type of beer is to malt the grain. First, fill a Large Ceramic Vessel with Fresh Water and mount it on a Firepit by Shift + RMBing. Next, add grain to the item slot of the Large Ceramic Vessel, seal it, and light the firepit. The grains in the vessel will become malted in 4 in-game hours. Grain expands 20% in volume during malting. For example, a full 160 oz of grain will produce one stack of 160 oz of malted grain plus another 32 oz stack. The minimum amount of Malted Grain needed to create a barrel of Beer is 145 oz. Therefore, at least 121 oz of grain has to be malted in order to make a barrel of Beer.

<!--T:43-->
Malted Grain cannot be used for Animal Husbandry.

<!--T:21-->

===== Roasting and Fermenting ===== <!--T:22-->

<!--T:23-->
The malted grain must then be roasted. Cook the Malted Grain in a Firepit or Grill. The degree of doneness (Very Light, Light, etc) does not matter.

<!--T:24-->
Next, let the roasted malted grain become Yeasty by leaving it out on a Food Preparation surface for an in-game day.

<!--T:25-->
Finally, add 145 oz of the yeasty roasted malted grain to a liquid container of Fresh Water, and seal it. If the ratio of grain to liquid is correct, fermentation will begin. As with other alcohols, the fermentation process will take 72 hours.

Creating A Still
=== Distilled Alcohol === <!--T:28-->

To create a Still, the player has to put a large clay vessel on top of a Firepit and then add a blowpipe in the vessel's item slot. They then need to put a another empty vessel adjacent to the main vessel to catch the product. If everything is set up correctly, the appearance of the distilling vessel should change to that of a clay still, signaling that the player is good to go. Once the liquid to be distilled is added to the vessel on the firepit and the fire is lit, the product should begin to slowly fill the collection vessel as it is boiled off in the distilling vessel.
<!--T:29-->
Distilled Alcohol is made from distilling Fermented Alcohol in a Still. Distilled Alcohol is a concentrated version of the corresponding Fermented Alcohol. Drinking Distilled Alcohol will grant more experience to the player, but will also intoxicate the player much more than Fermented Alcohol.

==== Still ==== <!--T:30-->
Containers#Large Ceramic Vessel

To create a Still, Shift + RMB a Large Ceramic Vessel on top of a Firepit and place a Ceramic Blowpipe into the vessel's item slot. This vessel will boil the input liquid.  Next, place another empty Large Ceramic Vessel on the ground next to the Firepit. This vessel will catch the output liquid. If everything is set up correctly, the blowpipe should appear to connect the two vessels.

<!--T:31-->

The Still can be used to create distilled Alcohols from Fermented Alcohols or to create Fresh Water and Salt from Salt Water.
==== Distillation ==== <!--T:32-->
To distill a Fermented Alcohol into a Distilled Alcohol, fill the vessel on the firepit with Fermented Alcohol, seal it, then light the Firepit. The Fermented Alcohol will be slowly converted into Distilled Alcohol and deposited in the second vessel. Every 200 mB of Fermented Alcohol will produce 75 mB of Distilled Alcohol. The process will stop if the heated vessel is unsealed, or if the Firepit runs out of fuel.

Distilled Alcohols
<!--T:33-->
To obtain Distilled Alcohol, the player has to distill Fermented Alcohol in a Still. To start the process, start the firepit with a large vessel of fermented alcohol above it. After some time, distilled Alcohol will start to deposit in the receiving vessel. 25 mb of Distilled Alcohol is produced for every 200 mb of Fermented Alcohol. Using different kinds of Fermented Alcohols will result in different kinds of Distilled Alcohols.

While Very Drunk, they have a higher chance of failing to interact with items, will also find it impossible to use an anvil. The player's view will also be blurry. Should the player keep drinking, they will become Wasted. While wasted, the player's view will become even more blurry, the chance to fail interacting with items will grow and the player will also wobble side to side while walking. If the player decides to continue drinking past this point, they will probably die of Alcohol poisoning. Drunkenness will slowly wear off on its own.

Obtaining

There are two tiers of alcohol in Terrafirmacraft+. The first tier, Fermented Alcohol, is created from fermenting various food items inside a liquid container. The second tier, Distilled Alcohol, is made by distilling Fermented Alcohol in a Still.

All alcohols are liquids and therefore must be contained within a liquid container, such as a Barrel or Large Ceramic Vessel. This also means that a Barrel or Large Vessel is required to produce any type of alcohol.

Fermented Alcohol

While there are several processes that can create fermented alcohol in Terrafirmacraft+, the base ingredients of all these are fresh water, Yeast, and some Food that can be fermented.

Yeast

In Terrafirmacraft+, yeast can be obtained by leaving non-preserved Fruit or Malted Grain in a Food Preparation surface for an in-game day. Yeast appears in-game as a property of Fruit or Grain, and is not a specific item on its own. When a food has yeast on it, its name will be prefixed with "Yeasty". This property has no effect on Decay or Taste, and can be removed by placing the food in a Firepit.

Processes

Different types of fermented alcohol require different processes to produce them. Namely, the processes for each of the types of alcohol are:

 • Fruit Wines can be made by adding Yeast to Fruit Juice.
 • Mead is made by adding Yeast to a mixture of honey and water.
 • Grain and potato wines first need to be soaked in water to create a mixture. Then, Yeast is added to the mixture.
 • Beers can be made by adding any type of yeasty cooked malted grain to water.

Fruit Wine

Fruit Wine can be made from the Juices of Food items in the Fruit category, as well as Agave and Sugarcane. To start the fermentation, add Yeast to a container of Juice, and seal it. As with other alcohols, fermentation takes 72 hours.

The volume of the Honey will be added to the volume of water, so there must be enough free space in the liquid container for the Honey to be added. This will immediately create the Honeywater. Next, add Yeast to the Honeywater to start the fermentation. As with other alcohols, fermentation takes 72 hours.

Grain Wine and Potato Wine

There are two steps in making Grain and Potato wines. The first step is to seal at least 145 oz. of Grain (except Oats) or cooked potato into a liquid container of Fresh Water. This will create a mixture of the food and water (e.g. Barley Water or Potato Water).

The second step is to add Yeast to the mixture of food and water, and then sealing the container in which it is contained. This will begin the fermentation and convert the mixture to Wine. As with other alcohols, fermentation takes 72 hours.

Beers

Beers can be created from any type of grain (except Oat). This grain must first be malted, then cooked, and allowed to become Yeasty. Next, they are added to a liquid container of Fresh Water in order to ferment them.

Malting

The first step in creating any type of beer is to malt the grain. First, fill a Large Ceramic Vessel with Fresh Water and mount it on a Firepit by ⇧ Shift + Right Clicking.

Malted Grain cannot be used for Animal Husbandry.

Roasting and Fermenting

The malted grain must then be roasted. Cook the Malted Grain in a Firepit or Grill. The degree of doneness (Very Light, Light, etc) does not matter.

Next, let the roasted malted grain become Yeasty by leaving it out on a Food Preparation surface for an in-game day.

Finally, add 145 oz of the yeasty roasted malted grain to a liquid container of Fresh Water, and seal it. If the ratio of grain to liquid is correct, fermentation will begin. As with other alcohols, the fermentation process will take 72 hours.

Distilled Alcohol

Distilled Alcohol is made from distilling Fermented Alcohol in a Still. Distilled Alcohol is a concentrated version of the corresponding Fermented Alcohol. Drinking Distilled Alcohol will grant more experience to the player, but will also intoxicate the player much more than Fermented Alcohol.

Still

Main article: Containers#Large Ceramic Vessel
A Still created from two Large Ceramic Vessels, a Firepit, and a Ceramic Blowpipe

To create a Still, ⇧ Shift + Right Click a Large Ceramic Vessel on top of a Firepit and place a Ceramic Blowpipe into the vessel's item slot. This vessel will boil the input liquid. Next, place another empty Large Ceramic Vessel on the ground next to the Firepit. This vessel will catch the output liquid. If everything is set up correctly, the blowpipe should appear to connect the two vessels.

Distillation

To distill a Fermented Alcohol into a Distilled Alcohol, fill the vessel on the firepit with Fermented Alcohol, seal it, then light the Firepit. The Fermented Alcohol will be slowly converted into Distilled Alcohol and deposited in the second vessel. Every 200 mB of Fermented Alcohol will produce 75 mB of Distilled Alcohol. The process will stop if the heated vessel is unsealed, or if the Firepit runs out of fuel.

Usage

Alcohol has a variety of uses. Alcohol can be bottled in either a Ceramic Jug or a Glass Bottle. While held, alcohol of any type can be drunk by holding Right Click. Fermented Alcohols restore some Thirst, Hunger, and Nutrition. Both Fermented and Distilled Alcohol will provide Experience points when drunk. Fermented Alcohol will give 2 XP, while Distilled Alcohol will give 8 XP.

Barrels and Large Ceramic Vessels of Fermented Alcohol, if left unsealed and exposed to the sky, will turn into Vinegar.

Drunkenness

Phosphor effect from heavy drunkenness

The player can become drunk if they drink too much Alcohol. While Drunk, the player may obtain random negative or positive potion effects, such as Jump Boost or Speed. Negative effects include the player randomly becoming Wounded. There are three consecutive stages to drunkenness: Drunk, Very Drunk and Wasted. When the player is Drunk, they have a small chance of failing to interact with items such as chests and barrels. If the player continues drinking, they will become Very Drunk. The player's view will become blurry, and they will not be able to use an anvil, as well as having an increased chance of failing to use an item. Continuing to drink will lead to the player being Wasted. In the Wasted stage, the player's view will gain a phosphor effect, where lines appear to stretch. The player will wobble side to side while walking. Drinking past this point will eventually lead to the player dying of alcohol poisoning. Drunkenness will slowly wear off on its own.

Trivia

 • The phosphor and blur effect are built-in Minecraft shaders, typically accessible via the "Super Secret Settings".
 • According to the developer, oats cannot be made into alcohol because one cannot make alcohol from 100% oat.
